Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is a broad field that encompasses many different types of dental procedures designed to enhance the appearance of your smile. This can include everything from simple teeth whitening treatments to more elaborate procedures like porcelain veneers or total makeovers.

There are several reasons why people might choose to pursue cosmetic dentistry. For some, it may be a way to boost their confidence, and for others, it may be a great way to make a good impression in social or professional settings. Some of the popular cosmetic procedures we perform in our practice include teeth whitening, bonding, porcelain veneers, and more!

At Dental Arts of Coronado Avenue, your imagination is the only limitation, and we are excited to become a part of your smile-enhancing journey! To schedule a cosmetic consultation at our San Diego, CA office, call today!

Bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored composite resin material is applied to the surface of a tooth. The material is then shaped and polished to match the surrounding teeth. Bonding can be used to improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped or cracked. It can also be used to close spaces between the teeth. Bonding is usually done in one office visit.

  • The first step in bonding is to etch the surface of the tooth with an acidic solution. This abrades the surface of the tooth so that the bonding material will adhere better.
  • Next, the tooth-colored composite resin material is applied to the surface of the tooth and sculpted to conceal the imperfection.
  • The material is then smoothed and finished, creating a natural-looking appearance.

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are designed to cover the front surfaces of your teeth. They are made from porcelain material and can be used to completely transform the appearance of the smile in as little as two office visits. Veneers can alter the size, shape, and shade of the natural teeth – as well as conceal misalignment, crowding, or gaps.

In order to apply veneers and ensure a natural appearance, a thin layer of enamel must be removed from the tooth surface. This process is irreversible, and veneers will be needed indefinitely to cover the vulnerable tooth surface.

Veneers are an excellent solution for patients who are looking for a durable, lasting way to improve the appearance of their teeth. If you think veneers might be right for you, talk to our team to learn more about the procedure and how it can help transform your smile.

Lumineers are a cosmetic treatment that can help improve the appearance of your smile by concealing dental issues, such as stains, chips, gaps, or discoloration. While being quite similar to dental veneers, the main difference between the two is that lumineers are thinner and do not require the removal of tooth enamel.

This means that lumineers are much less invasive and do not have to be reapplied in the future. Additionally, they can be placed in less time, often in just one appointment, to achieve incredible, transformational results.

While lumineers are excellent cosmetic options, they are more fragile than veneers. Because they are much thinner, they are more susceptible to damage. For this reason, it is very important to follow proper maintenance practices; this involves adhering to your hygienic routine and avoiding biting into hard, crunchy foods, candies, or ice cubes. This will help to preserve their appearance and ensure that they last for as long as possible.

Venus® Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dental procedure that can help you achieve a brighter, whiter smile. There are many factors that contribute to tooth staining and discoloration, including:

  • Certain foods and drinks
  • Smoking and tobacco use
  • Natural wear and tear of tooth enamel

Seeking professional treatment to brighten the smile is fairly simple and can achieve incredible results in little time. Our practice offers this cosmetic service with Venus Whitening in-office or at home!

  • When you complete the Venus Whitening in our office, a special whitening gel is applied to your teeth, and a high-intensity light is used to accelerate the bleaching process. The entire procedure can be performed in just one hour – allowing you to walk away with a brighter smile in just one day.
  • The Venus take-home whitening system utilizes professional-strength whitening gel and custom-fitted bleaching trays – designed to precisely fit your smile. The whitening solution is easily applied to the tray using a small syringe, and you wear the bleaching solution for a period of days until the optimal smile shade is achieved. We offer Venus gel in various strengths so that the solution can be worn overnight or for an hour each day.
